Yola, Nigeria – Nuru Nigeria has successfully completed the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Building Sustainable Livelihoods (BSL) activity, focused on improving food and nutrition security, promoting health and hygiene, building profitable farmer cooperatives, and increasing access to safe and affordable financial services in Adamawa State.

Over the course of two years, Nuru Nigeria worked closely with local communities in Hong, Gombi, and Michika local government areas (LGAs) to provide a range of innovative interventions to drive sustainable economic growth and improve the livelihoods of farmers and their households. These interventions recorded successful achievements, including the establishment of 191 primary cooperatives, the provision of training on household nutrition, modern agricultural techniques, and improved soil management practices, and the development of innovative financial products and services tailored to the needs of rural communities, reaching more than 13,000 Nigerians.

“We are proud to have partnered with USAID to implement such a transformative project in Nigeria,” said BSL Chief of Party, Ms. Amy Gaman. “Through the Building Sustainable Livelihoods activity, we have been able to work closely with communities to foster economic growth, promote sustainable agriculture, and increase access to financial services, all of which are critical to building resilient and prosperous communities.”

“We are delighted to celebrate the successful completion of this activity and the positive impact it has had on the lives of so many people across Adamawa State,” said Jazmian Ohanyere, USAID Nigeria Feed the Future Team Lead, at the closeout event. “Through our partnership with Nuru Nigeria, we have built more resilient communities, improved food security, and promoted sustainable economic growth for people working in the agricultural sector,” she added.
