WASHINGTON, DC—On Tuesday, October 27, 2015, the Global Social Enterprise Initiative (GSEI) at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business will host a panel discussion called “SEEing Value in Failure” from 9:00-10:00 AM (ET). Leaders will share why they see value in failure and provide examples of overcoming “innovation stifling fear” so that failure can contribute to solution creation. Moderated by Ladan Manteghi, Executive Director of GSEI, the panel will feature:

  • Jean Case, CEO, Case Foundation
  • Patrick Fine, CEO, FHI 360
  • Jake Harriman, CEO, Nuru International
  • Art Stevens, Director of Social Innovation Projects, PayPal

These leaders will specifically speak to topics such as:

  • How to create an environment for risk, failure and reward when money and lives are on the line
  • Key traits of meaningful failure and the people who embrace it
  • Successful failures that brought about positive change in business, government and the social sector

“At Nuru International, we’ve focused creating a risk-taking culture across cultural boundaries,” says Jake Harriman, CEO of Nuru International. “In founding two locally-led community development organizations—Nuru Kenya and Nuru Ethiopia—we dedicated time, energy and programming to break down the expat/local barriers inherent in development and replace those barriers with a deep trust. Only in this environment are people willing to fail as a means to innovate—and even more importantly, admit their failures.”

The event is open to the public and will be held in the Rafik B. Hariri Building, Fisher Colloquium. Click here to RSVP online. Doors open at 8:30 AM ET and coffee will be served.
