Washington, D.C. – Nuru is excited to announce its selection as one of the 2025 Best Nonprofits to Work For by The Nonprofit Times. This is the second year in a row and the fourth time overall that Nuru has received this honor–a testament to organizational values and work culture at Nuru.
“We are thrilled to be recognized among the best nonprofits to work for the second year in a row. This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to create a workplace where collaboration, purpose, and personal growth thrive.” – Emily McLaughlin, Nuru Chief Culture Officer
Each year, The Nonprofit Times, a national business publication for nonprofit managers, partners with Best Companies Group to identify nonprofit organizations whose leaders excel in creating quality workplaces. To qualify for this recognition, nonprofits from across the US submit themselves to a two-part external evaluation process.
An initial screening evaluates each organization’s workplace practices, philosophy, policies, systems, and demographics. Following this initial screening, employees from each organization complete surveys to measure their experiences at the organization. The combined survey scores determine final rankings, with Best Companies Group managing the registration, survey process, and analysis of the data.
“Nuru’s success starts with its people. By investing in our team, we create a workplace where individuals feel empowered, connected, and inspired to drive meaningful change. It’s an honor to receive this recognition two years in a row.” -Aerie Changala, Nuru Chief Executive Officer
Nuru is proud to be among the 50 nonprofit organizations recognized on this list. Nuru strives to consistently create an inclusive work culture built around its meaningful vision–a world without cycles of unjust poverty where resilience and hope are cultivated in the most marginalized communities. Beyond having a purpose-filled mission, Nuru prioritizes company time for self-care, team adventures, and fun activities that create connection among staff. Furthermore, Nuru uses transparent internal communication systems and equitable organizational policies to support work-life satisfaction.
“I see firsthand the dedication to cultivating a workplace where our small but mighty team feels valued, supported, and empowered to contribute to our mission. This recognition truly reflects our collective efforts and commitment to our people. It’s a privilege to be part of a team where employee well-being and professional growth are truly prioritized.” Candice Lee, Nuru Senior Human Resources Associate
