Akilah.net, the career advice website for the Akilah Institute for Women in East Africa, named Nuru International in 2015 list of The 6 Most Inspiring Companies to Work For in East Africa.

Bennadette Mugita—who oversees the Agriculture, Financial Inclusion, Healthcare and Education Programs as Nuru Kenya’s Impact Program Manager—shares about her experience:

Q: What do you find most fulfilling about working at Nuru?

A: I have always wanted to work in an organization that uses an integrated holistic approach to address the most prevalent and fundamental challenges of extreme poverty in our communities. Nuru Kenya focuses on four areas of need which include hunger, inability to cope with financial shocks, primary prevention of diseases, and advocacy for the access to quality education for children. This to me has been and still remains the most fulfilling approach whereby all the four impact programs are delivered in the same place and at the same time to ensure that each individual from the community may improve his or her own well being.

Q: What do you like about the working culture at Nuru?

A: Aside from the job scope itself, one factor that significantly influences how I feel about my work at Nuru is the environment. Nuru has provided a positive working environment where there is open and transparent communication and this has made the employees to feel that what they have to say has value. Nuru is a training and development focused organization which has a clear road map for training its employees to sustain and enhance the productivity of the organization as a whole. In addition to that, the fact that there is always recognition for employees who are hard working in the organization has enabled employees to put more effort in their work. Moreover, the servant leadership approach that Nuru embraces has really enabled us to work very closely with our communities, putting their needs first.
