NAIROBI, KENYA — It has come to the attention of the leadership of Nuru Kenya that an illegitimate group operating under the fraudulent alias “Nuru Kenya Compassion Organization” is actively impersonating our organization, misleading local farming communities, and running an illegal fee-collection scheme.

We unequivocally condemn these deceptive practices. Nuru Kenya has no connection, partnership, or affiliation with “Nuru Kenya Compassion Organization,” and we dissociate ourselves from their illicit operations.

Details of the Fraudulent Scheme

Reports verified by our field teams confirm that these bad actors have targeted farmers, particularly across Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties, mobilizing communities under false pretenses and unlawfully demanding money from local households. The scheme involves collecting:

  • KES 1,230 falsely designated as registration or processing fees for “project proposals”
  • KES 2,500 falsely requested under the pretext of “bank drafts”

In addition, the perpetrators have directed targeted farmers to Nuru Kenya’s legitimate digital platforms and official website to lend an illusion of credibility to their scam. This has resulted in concerned farmers contacting our office and field staff to verify commitments that Nuru Kenya neither authorized nor endorsed.

Statement from Leadership of Nuru

“We are deeply alarmed and angered that unscrupulous individuals are exploiting our reputation and goodwill to defraud hardworking farmers in Nandi and Uasin Gishu Counties. Nuru Kenya exists to build resilience, food security, and sustainable livelihoods alongside farming communities. Nuru never extracts illegal fees.

We wish to emphatically state: Nuru Kenya does not charge farmers fees for project participation, proposals, or bank drafts. We firmly denounce this criminal activity, extend our deepest sympathies to affected families, and are working swiftly with law enforcement and local county authorities to ensure the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
