The event brought together government representatives, development partners, civil society organizations, women’s cooperatives, and farmer associations with the intent to honor the contributions of rural women and advance inclusive strategies for food security and economic empowerment.

This year’s theme, “Rural Women: Cultivating Good Food for All,” served as a celebration and a reminder to recognize the importance of rural women’s contributions to farming, caregiving, innovation, leadership, and sustainable development.

In his opening remarks, Simon Eli, Nuru Nigeria’s Leadership and Partnership Director, emphasized the importance of recognizing rural women as key drivers of agricultural transformation, “We are honoring the strength and perseverance of women who form the backbone of our food systems. Our commitment is to ensure interventions are inclusive, sustainable, and community-led.”

A representative from the Adamawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs echoed this sentiment, stating, “Rural women are not just farmers. They are leaders, innovators, and custodians of our future. Food security begins with gender equity. Today’s event is more than a celebration; it is a commitment to elevate voices and co-create solutions that honor the dignity and potential of every woman in agriculture.”
