YOLA, NIGERIA–Nuru Nigeria, in partnership with the Adamawa State Ministry of Agriculture, hosted a World Food Day commemoration event on October 16, 2025, in Yola, Adamawa State. The event convened government officials, development partners, civil society organizations, and community leaders to reflect on global food challenges and advance local solutions rooted in resilience, equity, and collaboration.

This year’s theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” served as both a call to action and a roadmap for inclusive transformation. It emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to build food systems that are not only productive but also just, sustainable, and accessible to all. The Commissioner of Agriculture for Adamawa State delivered the opening address, emphasizing the urgency of addressing food insecurity and the importance of collaborative action. He emphasized that the future of food must bridge borders, sectors, and generations.

The commemoration event included the following: 

  • A panel discussion entitled “The Importance of Gender Transformative Approaches in Food and Financial Systems for Economic Growth”: This session brought together experts and practitioners to explore how inclusive policies and practices can unlock the full potential of women in agriculture and finance, supporting broader economic development.
  • An action-planning workshop entitled “Building Inclusive and Resilient Food Systems in Adamawa State Based on the Durable Solution Policy”: Participants collaborated to develop actionable strategies aligned with the state’s Durable Solution Policy, focusing on long-term food security, community resilience, and locally-led development.
  • The event also featured powerful stories from local farmers, including women Nuru Nigeria-supported women farmers. They shared firsthand accounts of how they’ve been equipped to improve their families’ nutrition and grow their income through home gardening and sustainable farming practices. These testimonials highlighted the transformative impact of community-based interventions and the importance of investing in inclusive rural livelihoods that benefit entire families.

Amy Gaman, Managing Director of Nuru Nigeria, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to equipping rural communities through integrated and locally-driven solutions, “World Food Day is not just a celebration. It’s a moment to recommit to the vision of a future where food is a right, not a privilege,” she said. “We must continue to elevate the voices of rural women and youth, and ensure they have the tools and opportunities to thrive.”

The event concluded with a collective pledge from all stakeholders to work hand in hand toward a future where every household has access to nutritious food, and every farmer, including women, have the support needed to lead and succeed.
